Undersea volcano erupts in Pacific, islanders of Tonga rush to escape tsunami

A tsunami advisory was issued early Saturday for parts of the B.C. coast, including Greater Victoria, following an undersea volcano eruption near Tonga. Environment Canada said there could be strong currents. Significant inundation is not expected, but there could be danger in low lying coastal areas. People in coastal areas are being advised to stay away from the shoreline. Tsunamis arrive as a series of waves and the first may not be the biggest.
