Politicians’ pay has gone up by a third in a decade, but a wage rise in line with inflation is too much?
There was a helluva lot of pearl-clutching last week when Anthony Albanese said he “absolutely” supported a minimum wage rise of 5.1 per cent, in line with inflation.
Partly, it was because the Labor’s leader’s affirmation seemed off the cuff, and we are so un-used to seeing anything unscripted in our politics.
We have very mixed feelings about naturalness in our politicians – we like authenticity, and we despair at their refusal to answer questions with frankness.
