Olyroos stun Argentina with 2-0 win to start Tokyo Olympics campaign
Australia's men's football team has opened its Olympic account in Tokyo with a 2-0 win over Argentina, which can count itself very unlucky to have had to play half the game with 10 men.
- Lachie Wales and Marco Tilio scored in the 14th and 80th minutes
- Argentina midfielder Francisco Ortega received two yellow cards just seconds apart shortly before half-time
- Australia is top of group C after Spain and Egypt drew 0-0
The Olyroos scored a goal in each half, and in between Argentina saw midfielder Francisco Ortega sent off when he got his second yellow card for an innocuous collision just before half-time.
Referee Srdjan Jovanovic was also happy to hand out cards to the Aussies, with seven yellows being handed to players in green and gold.
It could be a problem going forward, but for now the Olyroos are happily on top of group C thanks to their win over the favoured Argentinians, and a 0-0 draw between Spain and Egypt.
