Meet Melissa Bowers, The Interior Designer Behind Sona, Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ New Indian Restaurant In NYC
There are few types of projects interior designer Melissa Bowers hasn’t worked on.
The Los Angeles-based interior designer, art consultant and stylist started her career working under Bill Sofield at Studio Sofield; worked as a set designer and stylists for Helmut Newton and Sonia Rykiel; and served as the design director for Miami Beach’s Faena District. She also has designed some of New York’s buzziest new restaurants and hotels, including Modernhaus Hotel in SoHo, American Bar, Saint Theo’s and Sona, an Indian restaurant from restaurateur David Rabin, entrepreneur Maneesh Goyal and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Sona, helmed by chef Hari Nayak, is located in New York’s Flatiron neighborhood and serves elevated Indian cuisine.
Rabin, the restaurateur behind The Lambs Club, Café Clover and Skylark, and entrepreneur Maneesh Goyal, enlisted Bowers for her stylish eye and expertise in restaurant and hospitality design.
“Hospitality design was always my thing,” Bowers tells Forbes. “I was very much interested from the beginning in understanding where people want to dwell and live and incorporating that into restaurants and the amazing chefs behind them.”
