Extinction Rebellion blocks Amazon sites to disrupt Black Friday
Extinction Rebellion and Animal Rebellion are blocking Amazon sites with the aim of disrupting 50% of the company’s UK Black Friday deliveries.
Travel chaos is expected on the biggest shopping day of the year as the environmental activists block 13 sites across the country.
They claim to be ‘taking a stand against Amazon’s exploitation of people, animals and the planet’.
The online giant’s carbon emissions rose by 19% as many countries locked down during the pandemic in 2020, while its overall carbon intensity decreased 16%.
Bosses vowed to hit net-zero by 2040 in 2019, but activists insist that there is ‘no evidence for how that will be achieved and the pledge does not include Amazon’s supply chain’.
