Whitbread cuts fewer jobs than forecast as staff agree to reduced hours
Hospitality firm Whitbread has cut 1,500 jobs after government restrictions caused attendance at its restaurants and hotels to plummet.
The company initially reported in September that 6,000 redundancies were at risk of occurring, but due to cost-cutting measures that saw staff agreeing to reduce their working hours, only around a quarter of that number were carried out.
It comes as it revealed its third-quarter results showing that sales at its UK Premier Inn establishments fell by more than half as tiered regulations and England's second national lockdown damaged business travel and demand in big cities.
