BHOPAL: Battling a terrifying spurt in Covid infections, Madhya Pradesh is going into weekend lockdown — Fridays 6pm to Mondays 6am — in all urban areas of the state.“This is an unprecedented crisis,” chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Thursday.Coming less than a day after Sunday lockdown and nigh curfew was announced in these parts, the snap tightening of restrictions shows how alarming the Covid situation is in MP. A whopping 4,324 new infections were reported on Thursday the second consecutive day of 4k-plus cases — at a positivity rate of 12.9%. Announcing the weekend shutdown on Thursday, CM Chouhan said, “Measures like lockdown are the last option to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.Industries won’t be shut and factory workers can commuteOnly government employees and those engaged in essential services will be allowed on the road. Industries will not be shut and factory workers can commute. All other employees must stay at home.These areas will be barricaded and patrolled by police.
