School books turn over a new leaf and strip out stereotypes
Textbooks depicting boys playing football and girls dressing dolls could become a thing of the past thanks to changes at one of the world’s biggest education companies.
Pearson, which produces textbooks and owns one of the main exam boards, is making the first commitment of its kind to dispel gender bias.
It will not scrap any existing books or exam papers but all future resources will have to comply with new guidelines.
Pearson, which owns Edexcel exam board, describes it as a significant step forward in supporting children to learn with “gender equal” resources.
