India is entering a critical phase in the efforts to contain the second wave of Covid-19, which has hit us badly in the last two months. Though many in the government would like to believe that the second wave came unheralded, it is a fact that we received several warnings over the last six months. Besides, historical data from similar outbreaks of air borne viral illnesses show us that the spread of infection takes the form of waves — in most cases three waves. The height and breadth of the second wave is usually bigger than first or third, if a vaccine is not made available early enough.
