Church of England bishop: Ukraine should give up Donbas to get a ceasefire

Let Russia keep Ukraine’s Donbas region to achieve peace, says Bishop of Leeds A bishop has suggested that Russia’s annexation of Donbas could be accepted to achieve peace for Ukraine, in an apparent contradiction of British foreign policy. The Right Rev Nick Baines, the Bishop of Leeds, said in a paper ahead of a meeting of the General Synod next month: “The long-term goal should be that Ukraine controls all its territory, but it does not necessarily follow that military force should be used to liberate Crimea or even all of the eastern Donbas region.
