School districts across the metro may force students to wear masks this fall
Clinton school board members discussed how to respond to the state health officer's recommendations that unvaccinated students should be required to wear masks in the classroom this fall.
According to the Clinton Schools website, masks will be optional for faculty, staff and students. But the superintendent may require masks if local health data dictates that there is a need to do so.
There is a growing concern for children's safety because of the highly contagious delta variant. Kids stricken with the disease are in the ICU, some so sick that doctors had to put them on ventilators.
Parents are divided on school mask mandates.
"I think it will probably be good if it can kind of prevent the spread of the disease, you know, and help contain the numbers, whatever. Probably be uncomfortable, but at this point, we got to do what works for everybody," parent Ronald Cobbs said.
