136,000 waiting for NHS care across north London

136,000 waiting for NHS care across five north London boroughs - Credit: PA There are at least 136,000 people on NHS waiting lists in north central London (NCL), and pressure on hospitals is expected to rise over the remainder of the year. According to the NHS data from May, in the North Central London CCG area - hospitals in Barnet, Camden, Haringey, Islington and Enfield - there were 136,568 people waiting for treatment. This is the fifth highest figure for any CCG area, and works out at 90 people for every thousand across the five boroughs. Matthew Parris, director of local health watchdog Healthwatch Camden, told this newspaper the rising numbers are a concern. "We know that government modelling indicates that current waiting lists could more than double by the end of the year," he said.
